Getting started

MSG Songs asks for a few details the first time you open it. Your administrator will normally give you these.

  1. Complete the setup screen Enter the app name and password, your device ID, and the storage folder where your library should live. Pick a location you back up.
  2. Enter your server details Add the server address, server username, server password and server key. These connect the app to the sync server your group uses. If you are not syncing, ask your administrator what to enter here.
  3. Sign in Use the username and password issued to you. Tick "remember me" to stay signed in on this device.
  4. Build your library Create diaries and folders, add bhajans with their lyrics and metadata, then attach renditions — PDFs, audio, video or text — to each one.
  5. Import an existing collection If you already have a structured folder of files, use bulk import to bring the whole collection in at once instead of adding songs one by one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a "rendition"?

A rendition is any file attached to a bhajan — a PDF of the sheet music or handwritten page, an audio or video recording of a performance, or a text file. You can attach as many as you like to a single bhajan and open them from within the app.

Where is my data stored?

On your own device, in the storage folder you chose during setup. Your bhajan records live in a local database file there, and your attached files sit in a content folder alongside it. If you have configured syncing, a copy also lives on the sync server your organisation uses. See the Privacy Policy for details of what is collected and how it is handled.

How does syncing work?

While the app is running it checks your server periodically for changes made on other devices, and pushes changes you have made locally. Each record carries a counter so the more recent version wins. Media files are transferred alongside the records they belong to.

Sync is not working. What should I check?

Confirm that the server address, username, password and server key on the setup screen are exactly as your administrator gave them, that the device is online, and that the server is reachable from your network. If the address begins with http:// rather than https://, some networks will block it. If it still fails, email us and mention any error message shown.

I forgot my password.

Passwords are issued and reset by your server administrator. Ask them to issue a reset; the app will pick it up the next time it contacts the server. If you administer the installation yourself, email us.

Can I use MSG Songs on more than one device?

Yes. Install it on each device, sign in with the same account and point each one at the same sync server. Changes made on one device appear on the others.

How do I back up my library?

Back up the storage folder you selected during setup — it contains both the database and your media files. Copying that folder is enough to preserve your entire library. We recommend keeping it inside a folder your usual backup covers.

Can I get my data out of the app?

Yes. Your catalogue can be exported to an Excel file, and your media files are stored as ordinary files in the content folder, so they remain accessible whether or not the app is installed.

Why does macOS ask for screen recording permission?

Only when you capture a thumbnail image for a bhajan from your screen. macOS requires that permission for any app that reads screen contents. The image is saved into your own library and is never sent to us. You can decline it and simply not use the thumbnail capture feature.

Which platforms are supported?

macOS, iPhone and iPad. A Windows version is also available outside the App Store.

Data and account deletion

You can remove your data at any time.

Deleting data on your device

Delete individual bhajans, folders, renditions, playlists or performance records from within the app. To remove everything, uninstall MSG Songs and delete the storage folder you chose during setup.

Deleting your account and server-side data

Email info@obpltech.com from the address associated with your account, using the subject line Account deletion request, and include your MSG Songs username. We will verify the request and confirm deletion within 30 days.

If your sync server is operated by your own organisation rather than by us, the account lives on their system — we will pass your request on and tell you who to contact, but only your administrator can carry out the deletion there.

Deletion is permanent. Export anything you want to keep before you ask us to delete it — your catalogue can be exported to Excel, and your media files can be copied out of the content folder.
